So I finally finished it, and have a list of supplies used for you below for anyone who wants to recreate the background... :)

This is how it looked when I first started it...

Yesterday I became obsessed with Art Journaling, So I watch some vids on youtube and decided to make my own. I made this one today, and it is not complete yet, I still have coffee quotes and other fun elements to add but I thought I'd give everyone a sneak peak before its finished.

Supply List:

50+ GENIUS HACKS FOR YOUR CRICUT SILHOUETTE OR CAMEO

...SAVING YOU TIME, MONEY, & EFFORT!

Disclaimer: I have not tried all of these tips personally. Some of them may save time or money at the risk of damaging your machine or creation. Use your best judgement and try at your own risk.

TOOL HACKS TO USE WITH YOUR MACHINE:

• Use a safety pin to weed and lift tiny pieces of vinyl
• Add a small magnet to the side of your machine so you always have your safety pin handy
• Use an old gift card or hotel key instead of a scraper to get paper scraps off of your mat
• You can use an Exacto knife to add weeding lines if you forget to do it in the software
• Dental tools can be your best friend for weeding
• Pointed tweezers make for a great weeding tool
• Dip the tip of a tweezer or paper piercer in glue just enough to make it tacky to pick up small loose pieces like freezer paper or card stock.
• Use a light box for weeding. The light makes the lines much more visible!
• Use foil to resharpen your blade.
• 2″ putty knife instead of the tiny spatula to get things off the mat.

TRANSFER PAPER HACKS:

• Clear shelf paper instead of transfer paper.  There is usually a lot more in the roll for much less money and you can get it at Dollar Tree if you have one near you.
• Painter tape makes great on fly transfer tape, and there is 60 yards on this roll!
• When in a pinch for transfer paper, use a roll of adhesive lint remover!
• Scotch tape can even be used as transfer tape for smaller transfers.

CUTTING MAT HACKS:

• Inexpensive flexible cutting boards can be used as a cutting mat. Cut to size and position media or small pieces of vinyl with painters tape.  These can be found for about $1-$2 each!
• Respray your mat with Krylon repositionable adhesive when the mat isn’t sticky anymore. Make sure to tape off the edges of the mat with painter’s tape, then spray, peel off the tape, and let dry.
• If you accidentally cut through your mat, you can repair it with sturdy packing tape on the back of the mat.  I like to use Gorilla brand because it is super flexible and sturdy.
• Using Aileen’s Tack it Over & Over to re-tack your mat after you clean it completely. Mix 1 part Aileen’s to 1 part water take a sponge brush and brush on one coat let dry then apply a second coat. This will last like a new mat. Let dry completely after the second coat.
• Baby wipes are great for maintaining your mat.  Use them to clean your mat after each project session.
• Blue painters tape can secure things to a mat that lost it’s stickiness.
• Use a Cricut Mat with a Silhouette Machine.  They are less expensive and some think more durable.
• If you use a Cricut mat with your Silhouette machine make a line on the right side of your machine with a sharpie when you have your mat in correctly so you know where to place it every time.
• Use double sided tape to keep corners down on a mat that has lost it’s stick in some spots.  Scotch brand make a removable variety and it is small and handy to keep with your supplies.
• Washi tape can hold paper on the mat if it is moving. And let’s face it… It is definitely the cutest way to keep things secure!
• You can use a lint roller to remove bits of paper from your mat.
• Turn your mat around and feed it through backwards if you are repeating the same cut over and over to avoid cuts.
• Wash mat with soap and water to regain stickiness.  It is like magic!
• Use washi tape to attach two 12×12 mats if you are cutting something longer than 12 inches.  This will give you up to a 24″ length of cutting space
• Clorox wipes can also be used to clean cutting mats between projects.
• Cut a 12×24” mat in half to make 2 12×12 mats.

VINYL HACKS:

• Want to cut all the way to the end of a roll of vinyl? Tape a piece of paper across the entire width of the loose end. The rollers still have something to grab when all the length of the vinyl is under the blade when cutting without a mat.
• Use contact paper to cut stencils so you don’t waste more expensive vinyl.
• Cut empty toilet paper rolls to place around vinyl rolls. This  will keep vinyl from unrolling and help it stay organized.
• Reverse weed small designs or monograms.  You can see a great tutorial on this here.
• Reverse weed simple designs then place the back of the transfer paper back on, to save the negative space on a design you will use so you can use the design now and negative space as as a stencil later.

HEAT TRANSFER VINYL HACKS:

• Sharpie the guide line so its more visible
• Parchment paper for ironing over the heat transfer, or if you need to reiron if it starts peeling.
• Using sketch pens to outline your heat transfer vinyl can help with weeding.
• You can also use kraft paper to iron over HTV. It works just like the Teflon sheet but doesn’t make the HTV all super shiny which is great if you prefer it to be more of a matte finish.
• Add a reminder right on your machine to flip or mirror your image if you do a lot of HTV projects.
• Use a wooden cutting board instead of an ironing board if you are using an iron for HTV.  The hard surface makes it easier to apply more pressure to get it to adhere well.

SKETCH PEN HACKS:

• Take out the inside felt and ink inside a kids marker and the shell of the marker can be used to hold any pen you have like gel pens, sharpies or ballpoint pens! Instant pen holder!
• If your pen is too thin for the pen holder, add tape around the barrel of the hollowed out marker to make it fit in the sil holder
• Favorites to use in place of sketch pens include original Sharpies, ultra fine point Sharpies and gel pens.  This gel pen gift set  is like a dream!
• To get a chalkboard look on black paper use white gel pens.

OTHER HACKS:

• Putting ruler marks on the edge of your cutting table so you can always measure correctly without having to break out the tape measure or ruler.
• If you want to save money on images and cut files, there are a number of sites offering free .svg or cut files.  You can see a big list of sites that offer .svg freebies here and we also share a weekly free Silhouette file in our Silhouette CAMEO Project Inspiration Facebook group.  **** IMPORTANT Note: To use an .svg file with your Silhouette you will need the Designer Edition software. You can get a code emailed to you on Amazon so you can download immediately and not have to wait for shipping or wait for it to be shipped for a few dollars less.*****
• Instead of a light box put the design you are weeding on a glass coffee table and turn the flashlight on (or use your phone,) set it on the floor under the table. Boom instant light box.
• Wear a headlamp for weeding.  An inexpensive and conveniently hands free way to get a lot of light!
• Always make extra dots for the tops of j’s and i’s or periods. A lot of extras, those darn things like to disappear in a blink of an eye!
• Note the name and size of the font used off to the side of each design in case you need it again. Once you modify a font, you can not see what its name it in the Silhouette software.
• Monogram it app.

Homemade Recipes For Crafting Supplies

Recipes and combinations for making your own craft supplies at home-

1.Acrylic Ink:
1/5 of your container acrylic paint
some warm water
a small bead(for movement)

2. Gesso Recipe 1: (for 1 litre container)
1 part talcum powder
2 parts water
1 part white craft glue (substitute for acid free glue for scrap booking use)

OR Gesso Recipe 2: (smaller amount but you can always multiply it ;)
1/2 cup baking soda
3 Tbsp white glue
2 Tbsp white acrylic paint

3. Embossing Paste:
1/2 c talcum powder
1Tbsp white craft glue (substitute for acid free glue for scrap booking use)
1Tbsp acrylic paint
add a few drops of water

4. Distressed Embossing Powder:
a)add salt to regular embossing powder
b)or add fine craft sand to regular embossing powder
use as normal

5. Diy Puff Paint:
1 part shaving cream
1 part white craft glue(substitute acid free glue for scrap booking use)
acrylic paint to colour

6. Homemade Alcohol Blending Solution:
solution bottle(tomato sauce dispenser type)
70% rubbing alcohol
use in a well ventilated area

7. Homemade Glossy Accents/Dimension Glaze:
1/2 tsp water
1 Tbsp white craft glue(substitute with acid free glue for scrap booking use)
1 Tbsp gel/alcohol free gloss varnish
mix well

8. Glaze Gel (to give you a stained glass effect):
an empty well cleaned stickles type container
glossy accents
oil pastels
method-
break off a small piece of oil pastel.crush it between paper.add it to glossy accents.mix well.add more or less oil pastel as you need.

9. Gel Medium/Glaze Medium:
mod podge(2parts glue,1 part water consistency)
acrylic paint
(see also mod podge recipe below ;)

10. Air Dry Clay:
1 and a 1/2c maizena flour
1 Tbsp baby oil/cooking oil
1 Tbsp white vinegar
1 cup white craft glue
1 tsp body lotion(do not emit this part)
method-
combine ingredients in a mixing bowl
add a little more maizena till your mixture stops sticking to your hands.
knead well
(cover in cling wrap and store in an airtight container)

11. Mod Podge:
1part white craft glue
1 part water

free to download label

 

12. Texture Paste:
1/2 c talcum powder
1T white craft glue(substitute for acid free glue for scrap booking use))
1T water

13. Glass Bead Medium:
mod podge
glass beads

14. Alcohol Sprays:

 
(wear gloves for this)
fill bottle with rubbing alcohol
-remove the inside and nib of marker pens.
cut it into pieces.
let stand till color saturates(overnight is best)
-Another idea is to purchase a bottle of cd/dvd cleaner (comes in a spray bottle already and is filled with alcohol). It costs the same for the complete product as that of a stand alone container, and add your marker- inside and nib into this. Mark and name your color on the outside of your bottle.

15. Alcohol Ink:
1 part dye
6 parts alcohol
2 parts distilled water

16. Pigment Ink:
watercolor opaques(gouache)
glycerin
rubbing alcohol

17. Chalk Box Ink Refills:
opaque watercolors(gouache)
rubbing alcohol

18. Glimmer Spray/Mists:
water
food coloring
glitter eyeshadow or mica

19. Rubber Stamp Cleaner:
2 Tbsp glycerine, 1Tbsp baby shampoo to equal 1/4
water to equal 3/4

20. Homemade Clear embossing Ink:

 
1 Tbsp Vaseline
1/8 capful cooking oil
1/8 capful cooking oil
1/8 capful rubbing alcohol
Mix and apply to pad. Remove excess. To colour add watercolour paint or food colouring

21. Acrylic Paint Recipe:

 
1 cup salt
1 cup flour
1 cup water
food coloring

22. How To Make Your Own Stencil/Mask:
hot glue gun
silicone craft mat
draw your pattern of choice out of hot glue onto your mat and leave to dry and cool

23. A Few Uses For Glycerine:
-re ink your embossing pad
-add to dried up water color paints
-add to ink pads along with a few drops of water to freshen up

24. Frost Paint:
Mix equal parts epsom salts and boiling water in a glass.
Stir till salts are dissolved.let cool

25. Dimension Liners:
white glue
acrylic paint
use the container(nozzle type)that the glue came in

grate ordinary chalk on rough side of your kitchen grater,works like a charm at much less of a cost.

Yesterday I finished Making The His & Hers LED POI Set for Matt & I! SQUEEEEEE! I Love them, so does he, lol I had to stop him from playing with them before the glue dried, he was like a kid in a candy store. I Will have to get pix of of him spinning, He is a natural Soooooooo excited to be able to share my love of POI with My Partner He's the best! I will be making more of these for friends of ours who are interested in playing Poi with us also, and, at some point doing a tutorial. They are so ghetto fabulously easy to make you won't believe it. :)

Cute Sleeping Bear Frame

Cute Sleeping Bear Frame I painted for one of my sons Baby pictures.

I used Deco Arts Paint :) Mixed my own light blue, dark washed with a darker version of my mixed blue, and then dry brushed highlighted areas with the lighter blue.

Well hello there! I'm Tanahmera Aka: ZenShark Coach I am a proud Mother of 4 Amazing Sons :) I started Baw CraftWorx as a way to continue to give back to others with RAKS (Random Acts Of Kindness) & SWAPS (swaps haven't begun yet), and hoping to support myself and my sons. The problem is that my exes stole all of my inventory and supplies, so I was unable to continue for a time, I have however been able to replace a great deal of what was stolen, and I am preparing to re-Launch Baw CraftWorx in the near future. I'm also an ex Independent Stampin Up & Fiskars Demo & creative & mental health coach. I love sharing all of the awesome techniques I've learned over the years with others. Blog Pimpin In Progress

Well, I just noticed the other day that NONE of my blog images were showing up :( *SIGH* So I thought Since it's blog pimpin' time again anyway, I will just fix all that while I also check all the links and images on my blog, update whatever needs updating and delete everything that has expired (eg old blog hops & freebie links from external sites etc). I've even added a new WTF? Page and I'll be adding a Tutorial Page also just to help you navigate easier. And probably some other pages will be slapped up for popular topics:) That said I have much to do so I'm off to get it done. Blessings Love Every1!

Adding Label-based Pages To Blogger

In today’s featured tutorial, Tom Gehrke of thomasgerke.com shows us how to create a label-based page to your Blogger site. A label-based page is basically a section on your blog that contains similar or related posted articles. It offers your visitors a nice and easy way to look up relevant information aside from using other features like the search box.

This feature works best if you mark your posts using single-word descriptions for your articles (as Tom describes himself and his own situation in his article). So how do you create such a page?

In you dashboard, go to the “Pages” section and click on “New Page” and select “Web address”.

You’ll be presented with a form that will ask you to provide a name (Page title) for your page and its URL address. The name can be whatever you wish as long as it makes sense.

For example, if you want it to display all of your “How-To” related posts then name it as “How-To”.

For the URL address field, simply key in your blog’s URL and then append /search/label/Your_Label. Hence using the above example, you’d end up with something like “http://www.yourblogsite.com/search/label/How-To”.

And that’s it! You’re done.

NOTE: This comes with a couple of caveats, however, as Tom points out.

Caveat #1: Capitalization

The case of the label you use to tag your posts needs to be what you enter in the Web address. I’ve been labeling posts with a capitalized “How-To” rather than “how-to”. So “http://blog.thomasgehrke.com/search/label/How-To” works while “http://blog.thomasgehrke.com/search/label/how-to” does not.

Caveat #2: Spaces And Other Characters

You may have elected to use labels that include spaces or other special characters. These characters need to be URL encoded. (Read more about URL encoding here.) If I wanted a page that gathered up all of my New York posts, the Web address I would use is “http://blog.thomasgehrke.com/search/label/New%20York”. Note that I replaced the space between “New” and “York” with a “%20″.
